Tractor is dying when RPMs are lowered quickly from say 2800 rpms to 1000 rpms. When the tractor dies the fuel knob has to be pulled out two or three times quickly before the tractor will restart. Cleaned the fuel filter which was OK and checked for air in system by bleeding. Tractor runs ok at a constant rpm with tiller. Just dies when rpms are lowered quickly? Anyone ever had this problem or know what might be up with fuel pump?

I wonder if it idles OK around 800 rpm? I also wonder if it misses and gives off gray smoke for a bit if it catches before it dies and if this is a recent problem--could be normal I guess?

Nothing comes immediately to mind except if sounds more like a governor than a pump problem. Manuals for some governors have maintenance routines for lubricating flyweight pivot points. That's something that could be checked out but in general governor work means going to a diesel shop rather than doing it yourself. ....

No smoke or missing. Tractor only has 140 hrs on it. Just happened all at once, (The Dying). Idles ok at any rpm you place it on as long as you place it there slowly. Don't have shop manual on 2554 yet but am looking for one. ....

I get new Kioti's in that have interference between the throtle linkage and the fuel shut off cable. They will leave to much excess cable and it will get caught in the throtle. Also some develope a twist that sticks the cable in the linkage. Have had similuar mysteries on several. Have someone work the throtle and watch.
Just had a 55 do this last week and if you push the stop in and out it would start. Easy fix sort the stop cable.

Hope yours is this simple.

Dave ....
